Kellie de Burgh Yoga

My name is Kellie and my journey with yoga began over 20 years ago as a sanctuary, a way to stretch my body after sitting at a desk 10 hours a day (no stand-up desks then) in a stressful but exciting finance career.

Even though it felt really good to stretch I soon discovered there is so much more to yoga. In 2021, I went and completed my 200-hour YTT with Yoke Yoga (Chris Wilson, Ryan Mannix and Kate Henry) and stepped into the realms of teaching/guiding classes (forever a student of the study of yoga, I have taken further studies in yin, mediation, sequencing, relaxation and nervous system regulation). I now enjoy the balance of the corporate world, guiding yoga classes, running local retreats in Victoria and running Nervous System Workshops with Breath Counselling.

I have always loved movement of the body and how good it makes you feel. Stand Up Paddle Board, swimming, beach tennis which took me to managing teams and representing Australia in beach tennis for a few years in beautiful parts of the world by the ocean.

Yoga has changed the way I move through life. The deeper connection I feel with myself, my family, my friends and my community.

Through my own journey with burnout, I have come to realise the importance of a regulated nervous system. Success to me is ‘a calm nervous system’ which is definitely a daily practice. I am passionate about bringing science and embodied teachings of yoga together. Hence the workshops I deliver with Breath Counselling, run by my very talented sister Peta (find out more about it here).

The ocean is also an integral part of my practise and a source of inspiration, a place to think, a place to replenish, my ultimate happy place.

In 2021 I co-founded Yacht Club Yoga in Port Melbourne. It's a place where we practice over the water, listening to the waves and encouraging the calm of the Blue Mind. Wallace J. Nichols, marine biologist, researcher and author of the book Blue Mind, explains: 'The term 'blue mind' describes the meditative state we fall into when we are near, in, on, or under water. At Yacht Club Yoga we open the windows and sometimes see dolphins swimming past and playing.

I aspire, in my classes, retreats, workshops, to create a haven where individuals feel safe, present, supported and encouraged to move freely with the rhythm of their breath and body. I would love you to join me on this journey of yoga, of connection, balance and the understanding of the science of your nervous system.
